Welcome to Double Eagle Log & Engineered Homes

Double Eagle Log & Engineered Homes is a custom log-home builder dedicated to delivering a home that blends top quality craftsmanship with the natural beauty of wood logs in either full handscribed Traditional Log construction or Post & Beam construction. Ross Sheldan and his crew have been constructing homes for Canadians and overseas customers for over 20 years and have an impeccable track record of success and satisfied clients.

Our full scribe Traditional Log home is all hand crafted on our site. It is then disassembled, shipped to your site, and reassembled for you. The term Full Scribe is derived from the process of scribing and cutting a log. When scribed by an experienced craftsperson such as Ross Sheldan, one log placed on top of another follows precisely the contours of the lower log along the lateral plane and makes a tight fit with no visible gap and this generally implies a full scribe construction of logs stacked one on top of another to form walls and facilitating a truss or post and beam roof.

Since our homes are custom built, we can utilize either your plans or you may choose from one of our many custom plans. Typically, dependant upon size, number of stories, etc., prices may start from around $30 per square foot. We build any size of structure ranging from a 10 x 15 log Sauna to a 20,000 sq. ft. custom designed lodge. If you are looking for a top quality constructed building done at an extremely competitive price, then you are dealing with the right people, Double Eagle Log & Engineered Homes.

We also specialize in Post & Beam construction. Post and Beam buildings have a self-supporting skeletal structure built out of natural round logs. The logs are connected by proven traditional wood-to-wood joinery (mortis-tenon, dovetails etc.) and are flattened at interface points to accommodate wall and roof elements. Structural difficulties can be overcome by use of knee braces and P&B trusses which are, if designed correctly, very attractive and decorative.

The walls are usually filled in using conventional North American stick frame methods, with any kind of siding or stucco. Alternatives could be brick or rock walls, stresskin or even straw bale with adobe coating. Typically the walls are framed between the posts leaving the logs exposed from the inside as well as the outside but the walls can also be attached to the outside of the shell as in a timber frame. Post and Beam buildings create virtually no shrinkage problems hence the design of a P&B can be very complex with stepped foundations, split levels, flat walls (for display of artwork etc.) and lots of windows.

Post and Beam combine easily the natural beauty of round logs with any modern or conventional designs. Double Eagle Log & Engineered Homes can construct any size of building in this method. Be it a large storage or covered work area or an elaborate resort or residence, you can be assured of the best from Ross Sheldan and his crew.
